Ashes Divide Lyrics “The Prey” A Song About Rebellion

“The Prey”They pretend to be the ones to be afraid of
Caressing our souls away from us
And all of the world to keep us all in line
If we just fold our hands and smileSo many wasted
Promises rhapsodised
Promises to take us higher

Don’t be afraid of their excommunication, you’ll survive.
We’ll have no shame ’cause you will stand the climb and you will rise.

So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
So many wasted
Promises to take you higher

They pretend to be the one we should be afraid of
Caressing our souls away

So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
I’ve seen the twisted ways
They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try
To suffer live and die their way

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

You don’t have to be shaken and confused and
Hang on to anything you can find.

I like this song because it is a fine example of a song that expresses rebellion. I think that in the time we live in someone needs to say something about the government. Basically the whole song is about calling out the the people, to grab their attention, and  rise up.

My favorite lines in the song are “I’ve seen the twisted ways They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try To suffer live and die their way But it doesn’t have to be this way.” I think this a very true and powerful statement. The whole song has such powerful and bold statements. I believe some lines have deeper meaning and use metaphors such as “So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire.” However this line I’m not too sure what it means exactly. What is the fire stand for. I think its just a metaphor for the constant pursuit of happiness. Either way it is a great song and stands well as a poem. If you want to hear the song go to Myspace.com log in and search Ashes Divide “The Prey”
