Ashes Divide Lyrics “The Prey” A Song About Rebellion

“The Prey”They pretend to be the ones to be afraid of
Caressing our souls away from us
And all of the world to keep us all in line
If we just fold our hands and smileSo many wasted
Promises rhapsodised
Promises to take us higher

Don’t be afraid of their excommunication, you’ll survive.
We’ll have no shame ’cause you will stand the climb and you will rise.

So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
So many wasted
Promises to take you higher

They pretend to be the one we should be afraid of
Caressing our souls away

So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
I’ve seen the twisted ways
They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try
To suffer live and die their way

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

You don’t have to be shaken and confused and
Hang on to anything you can find.

I like this song because it is a fine example of a song that expresses rebellion. I think that in the time we live in someone needs to say something about the government. Basically the whole song is about calling out the the people, to grab their attention, and  rise up.

My favorite lines in the song are “I’ve seen the twisted ways They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try To suffer live and die their way But it doesn’t have to be this way.” I think this a very true and powerful statement. The whole song has such powerful and bold statements. I believe some lines have deeper meaning and use metaphors such as “So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire.” However this line I’m not too sure what it means exactly. What is the fire stand for. I think its just a metaphor for the constant pursuit of happiness. Either way it is a great song and stands well as a poem. If you want to hear the song go to Myspace.com log in and search Ashes Divide “The Prey”

I’m Still Here-A reassuring poem on death

I’M STILL HERE, Author Unknown
Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.

I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me, friend, I’m everyplace.

This poem gives me hope. I had suddenly lost a really close friend a little over a year ago and this poem makes me believe there is hope that he is not completely gone. The worst feeling in my opinion about death is the thought of an unexistence. One minute they are somebody and the next they are nobody. One minute they are alive, the next hey are dead. Reading this poem hurts a little though. I start to think about when he was alive, when he really was standing beside me. But then again it helps me remember some of the good times.  One part I took very literal was “My body is gone but I’m always near. I’m everything you feel, see or hear.” The reason I like and choose to take it literally is because he was cremated. So that line I could relate to.

My favorite lines are “When you start thinking there’s no one to love you, you can talk to me through the Lord above you. I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees, and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.” I like these lines because they are so beautiful, especially the last two lines. I would speak aloud sometimes at night, and feel like answers to my questions were somewhat responded, not by words, but by a feeling. I really like the poem for the hopeful thought that he is everywhere with me. Also it is very uplifting and helpful for people who need it.

Losing someone to death is so hard to overcome that I think it’s poems like this that make us feel better.

“Don’t Go Far Off” by Pablo Neruda…A poem about needing a loved one

Don’t go far off, not even for a day, because –
because — I don’t know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.

Don’t leave me, even for an hour, because
then the little drops of anguish will all run together,
the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;
may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.
Don’t leave me for a second, my dearest,

because in that moment you’ll have gone so far
I’ll wander mazily over all the earth, asking,
Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?

I really liked this poem because once again it is about love. It is basically saying that the speaker needs his loved one to survive. Although it is very moving and deep, I feel it is too needy, and not how I feel at all. I guess the speaker really needs his loved one by his side. I can relate to it even though it is too over the top. I once felt the need for someone. The feeling of losing someone can make you think life can’t go on without them. But it can and will.

   My favorite line in the poem is “Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;
may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.” I like this line beacause I can picture his woman’s body and face. I also love the way he words it especially  “may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.”

I also like the line “the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart.” I love the metaphor he uses. It makes the feeling of being choked up from love so much deeper and moving.

“If You Forget Me” a heart wrenching poem

If You Forget Me

By Pablo Neruda

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

This poem was very relatable to me as well as very moving. I was in a relationship for four years and discovered it was impossible to maintain at that point. I actually have lost all contacts with this person. At one point in time this poem was how I felt while going through the sticky breakup. I think that this poem is easily relatable to many others who have been in love and then suddenly lost it. However Pablo Neruda describes these feelings and thoughts so beautifully.

The poem has a nice flow to it. I like that it doesn’t need to rhyme to have this flow either. It sounds almost like a love song or even a letter to a former and astray lover. The beginning is very direct “I want you to know one thing. You know how this is.” It gives the reader a definite idea of not only what the poem is about but who this poem is to. I also love the metaphors in the poem, referring his love as roots in the soil.

The poet basically is saying not only does everything he encounter reminds him of his lover, but also whatever his lovers choice is he will follow. What ever happens with your feelings, I will feel the same way is the basic point of the poem. I think this perfectly describes how I felt at one point in time. A feeling of if you love me forever, I will love you forever, if you forget me, I have already forgotten you. My favorite part of the poem is “If you think it long and mad, the wind of banners
that passes through my life, and you decide to leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land.” I think that this is my favorite part because it was exactly what happened to me.
